The Healthy Brain Program Review
The Healthy Brain Program is marketed as an innovative approach to the care of the brain in the light of the growing number of people affected by brain illness. The Program, also known as The Healthy Aging Program, consists of a main didactic lecture followed by eight small group interactive seminars or series of workshops, in which program facilitators use slide presentations and offer Q&A opportunities.
The purpose of the program is to increase awareness of brain importance in the overall health and longevity of the human being. The Program suggests concrete action plans for eight researched disciplines: Safety, Nutrition, Physical Exercise, Mental Activity, Sleep, Stress, Hormones and Treatment of Disease.
The Healthy Brain Program is designed for anybody interested in maintaining a proper brain health, especially since all people are equally exposed to neurodegenerative disorders. A book containing the didactic material can be purchased form bookstores (in Canada) or from online retailers (Canada and elsewhere in the world), where people interested can also find additional information on the author and book bibliography.

The author of the Program is Doctor Stephen J. Kiraly, which developed the program in Canada in 1999 and presented it largely to professionals. Later on, after more than 250 presentations nationwide, Dr. Kiraly wrote the book inspired by the program called “Your Healthy Brain: a Personal and Family Guide to Staying Healthy and Living Longer.” The book is easy to read and suitable for the lay public.
The Healthy Brain Program is based on what the author called the Eight Pillars of Brain Health, particularly eight distinct and well researched disciplines of scientific knowledge which are generally accepted to be major factors influencing brain health and longevity. One of the Program’s main ideas is that no aspect of brain health exists in isolation and in fact all interact with each other. Each of the Eight Pillars can be delivered in a lecture, seminar or interactive workshop format.
Some workshop participants have claimed major shifts in thinking about health, self-care and lifestyle, whereas the reviews on the book are generally good.
- The Healthy Brain Program exists in the form of a book written for the general public
- The Program enjoys its own dedicated website
- The Program still enjoys great success and emphasizes the importance of prevention and maintenance of brain health
- Reviews on The Healthy Brain Program are hard to find
- The book format of the Program is rather expensive (approx. $100)
The Healthy Brain Program was invented in the late 1990’s as cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders were becoming alarmingly more frequent than ever before. Alzheimer’s disease for instance, a progressive neurologic disease which affects the brain leading to irreversible loss of neurons and the loss of intellectual capacity is today the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death in the top 10 in the United States which cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed down.
The Healthy Brain Program’s main purpose is to increase awareness of the brains importance and strongly advocates the desirability of prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of brain illness. The Program has enjoyed increased popularity among professionals so that the author finally wrote the book based on the same principles for the general public.
There are no statistics of whether and to what extent the Program has influenced brain health awareness; however, the principles of the Program are based on research and scientific evidence.
