Siberian Ginseng is a dietary supplement manufactured under the Solaray brand owned by Nutraceutical. The company began selling herbal products under the Solaray name in 1973 and by the mid 80’s extended its product portofolio and started producing mineral and vitamin based products. Some of the most successful products include Spectro (multivitamin/mineral supplement), CranActin (the best-selling cranberry supplement according to the company) and Pygeum/Saw Palmetto (helps maintain a healthy prostate).

Siberian Ginseng has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine to prevent respiratory infections like colds and flues and to generally improve the quality of life. The manufacturer claims that the product aids in fighting fatigue and stress and helps boost athletic performance. The company also claims Siberian Ginseng has been proven to help with fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes.
The product is recommended for adults as a dietary supplement.

Synopsis

1) Siberian Ginseng at a Glance

The product is an herbal formula based on the root of the plant Siberian Ginseng (also called Eleuthero or “the devil’s shrub”) as main ingredient.

The manufacturer claims the supplement helps enhance energy levels, boost the immune system, increase physical proficiency, improve memory and focus, and speed the recovery from various illnesses. It is even believed it helps with cancer-related fatigue or reduce chemotherapy side-effects.

However, the manufacturer does not provide clinical tests to support these claims, nor does it mention any side effects associated to the formula. Still, side effects for its main ingredient, the Eleuthero root, are well known. We make note of the most common: euphoria, nose bleed, increase of blood pressure, insomnia when taken close to bed time.

Nutrition Info

2) Ingredients of Siberian Ginseng

Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus)(root extract), Siberian Ginseng (root), Gelatin (capsule), magnesium stearate and cellulose.

3) Does Siberian Ginseng Work and it is Safe?

This dietary supplement contains Siberian Ginseng (also known as Eleutherococcus senticosus or Acanthopanax senticosus), an adaptogen that has a wide range of health benefits attributed to its use.

Several clinical studies have been conducted (mostly in Russia and Korea) to prove the Effectiveness of this plant. According to these studies, the plant has shown to have several biological effects in subjects: memory and learning improvement increased endurance, immunologic and anti-inflammatory.

However, it is important to note that people with high blood pressure should avoid the use of Siberian Ginseng because this plant may increase their need for medication. It is also important to note that purchasing Siberian Ginseng from verified sources is essential. There have been reported several cases when Siberian Ginseng was altered with another herbal extract (Periploca graeca), which can potentiate digoxin or similar drugs.

Unfortunately, many customers find this supplement to be lackluster. There are very few testimonials and even less positive reviews. Therefore we advise maximum caution with this product.

This supplement cannot be purchased directly from the manufacturer, but there are numerous online retailers.

The recommended daily dose for adults is one capsule, taken one to three times a day with a meal or a glass of water. The product is not generally recommended for use by children, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Verdict

8) Our Verdict on Siberian Ginseng

The producer claims Eleuthero to be an all-natural formula, an extract from the root of Eleutherococcus Senticosusor (Siberian Ginseng) native from Northern Asia. The plant has adaptogenic properties, in fact it is a metabolic regulator which has the ability to increase the body’s ability to adapt to environmental factors.

Today Eleuthero is used on a large scale as a compound in supplementary products. Although the manufacturer makes many benefit claims in relation to the product (increase focus and neural proficiency, boost physical performance, help in keeping under control heart disease, cholesterol, impotence, respiratory problems) it does not support them by any actual proof or clinical results.

This product made by this manufacturer has been tested and found effective for years by me. Had stopped for a while and noticed the difference: sluggish, lazy, lethargic, my get-up-and-go had got up and left. Well, it’s back! Plenty of evidence online pointing to the efficacy of “Siberian Ginseng.”
