8) Conclusion

Shank Pushpi is an alternative remedy originated in the Indian Ayurveda medicine, a form of traditional practice still used by 80% of Indians today. In Ayurveda, the spiritual and the physical are equally important to the treatment scheme.

The product is marketed as a brain tonic, however no recent clinical research or controlled human studies have been done on the herb. Several small Indian studies conducted in the 1970’s and 80’s revealed a high effectiveness of the product in cases of anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Its application in modern medicine is still a matter of debate and research is needed. We recommend caution and a medical advice prior to starting treatment.
