1) What is New Mood?
New Mood uses B vitamins, magnesium, nootropics, and three other ingredients: L-Tryptophan, 5- Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), and Inositol Hexanicotinate. L-Tryptophan is an amino acid which may be helpful for assisting with restfulness, and the ability to sleep well, but there isn’t a lot of evidence. However, since tryptophan is converted into 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which can be converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin, it’s often promoted for potential anti-depressant abilities. Unfortunately, very few studies on tryptophan and 5-HTP meet high scientific standards. An analysis of over 100 studies on the substances found two which met quality standards. Because of this, tryptophan and 5-HTP aren’t often recommended by doctors. Their safety and interactions with other drugs aren’t well known. However, they seem to work in New Mood’s formula.
2) Details on New Mood Ingredients and Uses
New Mood contains the following ingredients: Niacin (30mg), Vitamin B6 (20mg), Magnesium (40mg), L-Tryptophan (400mg), 5-HTP (150mg), Inositol (12mg), Onnit Tranquility Blend (450mg): Valerian Extract, Chamomile Extract, Lemon Balm Extract, Jujube Extract.
3) Is New Mood Right for You?
This supplement uses seven active ingredients plus niacin, vitamin B6, and magnesium. Their proprietary blend includes Valerian root, Chamomile flower extract, and jujube seeds. Everything is bundled into a convenient vegetarian capsule. The vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) seems high at first, but there’s limited to evidence to support 20 mg daily as a cognitive enhancer. B6 is used by the body for a lot of functions.
Valerian root is a familiar ingredient for many people. It’s common in medications that fight sleep disorders, anxiety, excitability, migraines, joint pain, nausea, and more. There is scientific evidence that it helps with insomnia and other sleep-related problems, although research is a little inconsistent on some other uses. More long-term studies are also needed, although Valerian root is safe for children and adults in the short term. Strangely enough, rare side effects of Valerian root are insomnia, headaches, uneasiness, and excitability all things the root is supposed to be effective against. You may also feel sluggish or sleepy, especially in higher doses. It’s meant to relax and calm you. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have upcoming surgery, you should not take supplements containing Valerian root.
4) New Mood Benefits & Results
- Vegetarian capsules which don’t have caffeine or soy.
- Sold by a popular company and there are plenty of people who clearly enjoy this supplement.
5) Precautions of New Mood Use
- Formula isn’t quite optimal, to bring out the best results from some ingredients.
- Can be very expensive if you take the supplement on a frequent basis.
6) New Mood Price
New Mood bottles contain either 30 or 90 capsules. You’re supposed to take two capsules daily, so the 30 count bottle only lasts for about two weeks. The company says you can take a maximum of six capsules in a 24 hour period. You get a discount on your first purchase of New Mood, but it’s still an above average price. The 90 capsule bottle is a better deal than the 30 capsule bottle. Onnit offers what they call a hassle free money back guarantee for most products. It’s valid for three months, for the first time you purchase a product. They refund your money without you having to fill out any forms or even return the supplement.
7) How to Take New Mood
Inositols are Pseudovitamin compounds found in most foods, and are common enough in dietary supplements. It’s usually used in the form of Myo-inositol. The standard dose is 14 to 18 g daily, but as little as 4 to 6 g can be effective. New Mood contains 6 mg per capsule, which isn’t nearly enough for most people, if they want to see significant results. Inositol supplements can decrease anxiety, improve fertility in women, reduce chances of panic attacks, and reduce symptoms of depression. These benefits often require frequently taking high doses of inositol, which New Mood does not provide. The compound has a lot of potential benefits and there are a good number of studies looking into these benefits, so it’s strange that Onnit wouldn’t use more.
8) Our Bottom Line
Most users take New Mood in the evening. One to two capsules an hour or two before sleeping appears to have relaxing results. People disagree over whether or not the supplement helps them sleep better, but for the most part, this product seems to work as advertised. One reviewer said it can be superior to melatonin supplements, as New Mood won’t leave you groggy in the morning. Another person said it can help with hangovers. Overall most people really enjoy this product, saying it efficiently relaxes them, and de-stressed after a long day at work or school.
