Olympian Labs Krill Oil Review – 8 Things You Didn’t Know
Krill Oil is a fish oil supplement which may support heart health, joint health, and more. It’s sold by Arizona company Olympian Labs, who has been in business for more than two decades. They sell a large number of products for many purposes, and have a significant social media presence. Their website allows visitors to get a free e-cookbook, which could be useful for some. Olympian isn’t quite as full-body-health centric as some other countries, although they’re owned by Thailand based pharmaceutical company Besins Healthcare.
1) What is Krill Oil?
Two soft gel capsules provides 1000 mg of fish oil, including 150 mg EPA and 90 mg DHA. The unique part of this product is the fact that some oil is derived from krill instead of a more traditional fish. This is because fish are an excellent source of high quality Omega-3s, essential fatty acids for brain and heart health. Some Omegas also bring benefits to your eyes and joints. Krill can provide similar benefits when dosed appropriately, and is sometimes considered a more sustainable source of EPA and DHA. It also cuts down on the use of deep sea fishing, a conservation and environmental concern.
2) Details on Krill Oil Ingredients and Uses
Krill Oil contains the following ingredients: Vitamin A (100 IU), Krill Oil/ Fish Oil Concentrate (1 g), EPA (150 mg), DHA (90 mg), Oleic Acid (85 mg), Linoleic Acid (20 mg), Astaxanthin (1.5 mg), Phospholipids (400 mg): Phosphatidylcholine (70-75%), Lysophosphatidylcholine (2-5.5%), Phosphatidylethanolamine (2-5%), Phosphatidylinositol (1-3%).
3) Does Krill Oil Work?
Each serving delivers 1000 mg of krill oil, with 150 mg EPA and 90 mg DHA, along with 1.5 mg astaxanthin. Unfortunately it’s important to note that the oil is not 100 percent krill. The gelatin capsules include anchovy, mackerel, sardine, herring, and/or tuna. Olympian Labs doesn’t mention the concentrations, and it’s possible that the krill is the ingredient used least. We don’t have a good way of knowing. Fortunately, fish oil is still a great supplement. Studies prove that fish oil is effective in combating heart disease and high triglycerides. It can provide other mental and physical benefits too, like promoting joint health.
Astaxanthin is an antioxidant. It’s a pigment responsible for the pink color of salmon, lobster, shrimp, and other seafoods. It’s found in some types of algae as well. There aren’t any known side effects or adverse interactions with medications. People can take it in amounts up to at least 4 mg a day, so with less than 1 mg per capsule in Krill Oil, it’s practically guaranteed to be safe. There isn’t a lot of medical research yet, but so far, it may help with a lot of things. This includes helping prevent eye problems, suppressing acid reflux, and lowering cholesterol.
4) Krill Oil Claims
- More ingredients than the typical fish oil supplement, including astaxanthin and linoleic acid.
- No preservatives, artificial colors, sweeteners, or gluten. Soft gel capsules can usually be eaten or swallowed. Which method you choose depends on your preferences.
5) Krill Oil Product Warnings
- Not pure krill oil. The gelatin capsules include anchovy, mackerel, sardine, herring, and/or tuna.
- Low amounts of EPA and DHA compared to competing brands of fish oil and krill oil.
6) Krill Oil Price
This is a little expensive for a supplement which lasts for one month. It is, however, possible to find Krill Oil for an average – or below average – price. The company’s products are sold through a variety of retailers, including Vitacost and The Vitamine Shoppe. You can find sales on the Olympian Labs website too. Their site is a little difficult to navigate easily and smoothly. They do have sales, coupons, and the option of free shipping. Shipping is free on larger orders of $50 USD or more. There isn’t a terrific money back guarantee. You can return unopened products within 30 days for a refund, but shipping costs are not reimbursed.
7) How to Take Krill Oil
Fish oil can improve cardiovascular health, cognitive development, joint health, and more. Even in lower amounts like Krill Oil’s 240 mg of Omega-3s per serving, you’re still getting a lot of benefits for a sometimes-low cost, making it easy to recommend this product for most people. Oftentimes with fish oil supplements there’s a chance of side effects. If they appear at all, they tend to be mild things like burping or fishy breath. You can improve your chances of avoiding adverse effects by taking your fish oil with food, or freezing capsules before eating or swallowing them. In most cases, you won’t see side effects unless you take a lot (3000 mg or more a day, which would be 6 capsules of Krill Oil) or your fish oil is very low quality.
8) Our Bottom Line
Krill Oil is a supplement which can work for everyone, but it’s most effective within certain groups. The very young and very old will prefer something with more DHA, as would future mothers. Fish oil in general is always a benefit for those who don’t eat much seafood in their regular lives. It’s known as a brain food because of its many benefits, most of which stem from the long-chain fatty acids like DHA and EPA. In this case, Olympian Labs seems to have a high quality product, despite not quite being a “one size fits all” type of solution. If you're looking for a supplement formulated to promote calm and focus, consider one that's created with superior ingredients.
When it comes down to quality and effectiveness, it's no wonder that our preferred product is HCF® Happy, Calm & Focused. HCF is a supplement made from the highest quality ingredients, specially formulated to both promote brain health and focus expressly.

Krill Oil Questions & Answers
Krill Oil includes the following ingredients: Vitamin A (100 IU), Krill Oil/ Fish Oil Concentrate (1 g), EPA (150 mg), DHA (90 mg), Oleic Acid (85 mg), Linoleic Acid (20 mg), Astaxanthin (1.5 mg), Phospholipids (400 mg): Phosphatidylcholine (70-75%), Lysophosphatidylcholine (2-5.5%), Phosphatidylethanolamine (2-5%), Phosphatidylinositol (1-3%).
It's marketed as krill oil, but actually contains several types of fish, which may turn off a lot of consumers. It looks like a good quality product with several important ingredients, but there's a downside to this as well: competing supplements can often contain more EPA and DHA. The Omega-3s are why most people take fish oil supplements. The price on Krill Oil can vary significantly, but if it's on sale, it can be a great deal. This is a product which works, yet might not always be your number one choice based on price and potency.
