Facts

1) Neurologic Quick Facts

Neurologic includes a list of more than 20 different ingredients, from various classes of substances that act differently to trigger brain mechanisms related to the cognitive function and stress response.

Phosphatidylserine (or PS) is a phospholipid often found in brain enhancing supplements. It is naturally produced by the human body and is most concentrated in the membranes of brain cells. The phospholipid apparently has an important role in the synthesis process of Acetylcholine and Dopamine, essential neurotransmitters in the brain. Dopamine is related to memory and stress response mechanisms, while Acetylcholine regulates both memory and mood. PS levels may decline with age, which could lead to impaired mental capabilities and cognitive health ‘ conditions such as dementia, Parkinsons disease or Alzheimers. Research conducted so far has not reached an unanimous conclusion on the complete set of benefits and adverse effects of PS.

Amino-acids are a special class of substances with an extremely large number of functions throughout the body. They help balance brain chemicals and other aspects of brain function in order for a harmonious and optimal functioning of the brain. L-Tyrosine for instance is involved in the synthesis of Norepinephrine, Epinephrine and Dopamine, neurotransmitters that regulate pain sensitivity, memory, alertness and focus to mention only a couple of benefits. L-Theanine has a nerve relaxing effect, being touted for benefits against mood and sleep disorders. The amino-acid may modulate aspects such as mental alertness, focus and attention, a large amount of research being conducted to support these benefits.

2) Ingredients of Neurologic

Neurologic contains the following ingredients: Vitamin E (as d-alpha tocopheryl acetate), Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin), Memory and Focus blend (Choline bitartrate, AlphaSize A-GPC (Alpha-glyceryl phosphoryl choline), SerinAid PS (providing Phosphatidylserine, Phosphatidylcholine, Phosphatidylethanolamine, Phosphatidylinositol), and L-Theanine), Alertness & Mental Clarity blend (L-Tyrosine, DMAE, Alpha lipoic acid, Ginkgo Biloba (leaf) extract, Rhodiola Rosea (root), and Huperzine A (Club serrata)).

3) Does Neurologic Work?

The Neurologic brain supplement mixes in a large number of different ingredients in a blend claimed to enhance cognitive performance on some levels. The vitamins B12, Folic Acid, and Vitamin E have been credited with antioxidant properties, meaning they may help prevent neurodegeneration caused by oxidative processes.

Other relevant ingredients include the herbal extracts of Rhodiola Rosea, Ginkgo Biloba and Club Moss (Huperzine A). Huperzine A appears to exert its properties directly on the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine, whose break-down it prevents hence making it more available to the brain. This way, much of the memory processes and learning mechanisms that are facilitated by Acetylcholine are protected and optimized.

Ginkgo Biloba is perhaps one of the most favorite memory boosters used by dietary supplements manufacturers. Its antioxidant effects as well as its ability to enhance blood flow, both have direct or indirect impacts on brain functioning. The plant has been researched about memory loss disorders such as Alzheimer’s, with controversial results so far.

Other compounds of the formula include Phosphatidylserine and Phosphatidylcholine. Phosphatidylserine is one of the major constituents of all cell membranes, hence essential to the proper functioning of cells. Numerous clinical studies link this substance to positive influences on neurodegenerative processes that lead to dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The substance has also been related to the synthesis of essential brain neurotransmitters including Dopamine and Acetylcholine, which are involved in the regulation of mood and memory.
There are certain side effects associated to each of these ingredients, which you need to be aware of. This is why there may also be certain Neurologic side-effects, such as an elevated risk of bleeding, nausea, allergic reactions, headaches, etc. New side effects may also arise from the interactions of the core ingredients, as most research has not reached definite conclusions.

I’ve honestly seen improvements in my memory after the first month of use. I was a non-believer in dietary supplements and rushed to get whatever prescription drug I could find to treat my poor memory and bad mood. After a few un-successful and side effects filled such drugs I decided to try Neurologic and I can now see the benefits. Hope however that the effect will not fade out in time.

It took me quite a while to get used to the taste and the smell. I am now rather used to it, and particularly convinced of its advantages: better memory, more clear thinking throughout the day and a general positive mood and perspective on things!
