1) Neuriva Plus at a Glance
Despite a rather thin ingredient list (with only two relevant core ingredients), the product has seen a lot of buzz from its customers.
The formula harnesses the power of two natural ingredients – coffee fruit extract and Phosphatidylserine – to fuel six indicators of brain performance: focus, memory, learning, accuracy, concentration, and reasoning.
Price-wise, the product developed by Schiff Vitamins is slightly more expensive than other similar nootropics. So, is the high price tag justified? Can this nootropic live up to the many claims made by the manufacturer?
2) History of Neuriva Plus
Neuriva Plus is produced by Schiff Nutrition International (Schiff Vitamins)[1], a company headquartered in Salt Lake City, and the manufacturer of extensive product lines such as Digestive Advantage, Bodiome, Airborne, MegaRed, and Move Free.
Schiff Vitamins was founded by Joe Weider as Weider Nutrition[2] in 1936, considered the first sports nutrition company. As Weider Nutrition, they were the creators of Tiger’s Milk nutrition bars, and related products, one of the earliest sports foods lines.
Reckitt Benckiser (RB) acquired[3] the company after a 1.4 billion US$ deal in 2012, but Schiff’s name continues to be used on the company’s products. RB has operations in over 60 countries, with headquarters in the UK, Singapore, Dubai, and Amsterdam, and sales in almost 200 countries.

3) Neuriva Plus Nutrition Facts
Neuriva Plus includes the following active ingredients:
- Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine hydrochloride) 1.7 mg
- Folate 680 mcg DFE
- Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin) 2.4 mcg
- Coffee fruit extract (Coffea arabica) 200 mg
- Phosphatidylserine 100 mg
Other inactive ingredients include hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, carrageenan, pectin, microcrystalline cellulose, rice bran, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate.
4) What Does Neuriva Plus Do?
As said above, Neuriva Plus offers a simple mixture of two core ingredients (the patented coffee extract Neurofactor and Phosphatidylserine) and three support ingredients (Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and Folate).
Phosphatidylserine is a fatty substance produced in the body. Phosphatidylserine is crucial because it is involved in the body’s clotting function, and it can protect every cell in the body. It’s especially needed for the proper functioning of nerve cells within the brain, assisting in transmitting messages between neurons.
As an essential element of healthy nerve cell membranes, Phosphatidylserine is deemed to have a crucial role in maintaining your memory sharp as you get older[4].
Phosphatidylserine is found naturally in certain foods, including soy (which is the primary source), egg yolks, white beans, beef liver, and chicken liver. Sadly, it’s difficult for your body to absorb sufficient amounts from dietary sources.
The compound is also available in dietary supplement form where is typically used as a natural alternative for a number of health issues, including:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Multiple sclerosis
Also, phosphatidylserine supplements are purported to promote healthy sleep, preserve memory, enhance exercise performance, and improve mood.
Phosphatidylserine is often taken to slow age-related memory loss. In a 2010 study[5] published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition, 78 older adults with mild cognitive impairment were given, for six months, either a placebo or a treatment with Phosphatidylserine supplements.
In tests performed after the six months, participants with moderately low memory scores were observed to have experienced an improvement in memory at the start of the study.
Phosphatidylserine is believed to play a role in improving mood. In a study[6] published in Mental Illness in 2015, participants over the age of 65 diagnosed with major depression received a treatment containing the Omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA and Phosphatidylserine three times daily for three months.
Scientists observed how scores on a depression scale had improved in all participants. However, more research is required from large-scale studies to determine whether the improvements were because of the Phosphatidylserine or the Omega-3 fatty acid mixture.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. Children diagnosed with ADHD typically are overly active, and they have difficulty controlling impulsive behaviors and focusing on tasks.
ADHD can also affect adults. Systematic research has unveiled a link between cortisol regulation and Phosphatidylserine that may be especially beneficial for individuals with ADHD.
For people diagnosed with ADHD, Phosphatidylserine has been shown to promote memory and cognition, increase mental focus, relieve stress, and boost mood by reducing cortisol levels.
Phosphatidylserine has been shown to encourage increased brain activity through the neurotransmitters, thus improving the ability of people living with ADHD to focus, control impulses better and learn without becoming easily fatigued.
A 2014 randomized, double-blind study[7] published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics tried to conclude whether or not supplementing with soy-derived Phosphatidylserine can lessen ADHD symptoms in children.
During the study, scientists observed 36 children, 4 to 14 years of age, who had not previously received any drug treatment for ADHD. Each child received either 200 mg of Phosphatidylserine or a placebo daily for eight weeks.
The researchers found that supplementing with Phosphatidylserine greatly improved short-term auditory memory and ADHD symptoms. The study concluded that Phosphatidylserine might be “a safe and natural nutritional strategy for improving mental performance in young children who have ADHD.”
Neurofactor is advertised as an all-natural, patented extract of whole fruit from the Coffea arabica plant. Neurofactor is believed to increase key neuroprotein (BDNF) levels vital to higher thinking, memory, and learning.
This patented coffee extract is produced by FutureCeuticals[8] and sold to various supplement manufacturers to be included in their formulations. According to FutureCeuticals, NeuroFactor works by stimulating Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) production, a key neuroprotein involved in overall brain health[9].
BDNF plays a critical role in protecting against neurodegeneration and maintaining, developing, and repairing neurons. Neuroscience suggests that increased BDNF may help reduce the advancement of cognitive decline in humans[10].
However, there are only several studies regarding this compound. While the preliminary findings are encouraging, a lot more research is needed before knowing how Neurofactor can support cognitive function and its long-term effects on the brain.
Furthermore, FutureCeuticals claims that the compound pairs well with ingredients that can stimulate or improve cognitive health[11] (Alpha-GPC, Caffeine, Theanine, Huperzine A, Tyrosine, Beta-Alanine, Taurine, Nitrosigine, Betaine Anhydrous, and other performance-enhancing ingredients).
None of these recommended support ingredients are available in Neuriva Plus.
5) Neuriva Plus Claims
Neuriva Plus claimed benefits include:
- Support six indicators of brain performance – focus, memory, learning, accuracy, concentration, and reasoning;
- Clinically proven natural ingredients;
- Gluten-free, GMO-free, vegetarian and decaffeinated;
- Formulated by a team of physicians and holistic practitioners;
- Naturally sourced ingredients;
- Paired with a brain support app that can track your progress.
6) Potential Side Effects from Neuriva Plus Ingredients
There aren’t any known side effects of Neuriva Plus that would be considered major. Typically, you are likely only to experience mild to moderate adverse effects if you exceed the daily recommended dose.
Neuriva Plus contains Phosphatidylserine that may trigger several mild side effects in some users, including insomnia, gas, and stomach upset[12][13].
7) Neuriva Plus Warnings and Precautions
Phosphatidylserine may have a blood-thinning effect. If you’re taking anti-inflammatory medicines, blood-thinning medication (i.e., Coumadin, Warfarin), or have blood-clotting problems, you should discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Phosphatidylserine.
PS may also interact with certain prescriptions used to treat glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease, antidepressants, and antihistamines[14][15].

"It works for me. I have ADD, and it's hard for me to stay focused on anything. This lets me be me while being able to think faster and better judgment. Maybe a little too good as even my boss is like your doing such an amazing job that they just keep giving me more to handle, but no worries, I got this!" [Read full review]
---Elly
"Not too sure about this product since I can't say that I notice a significant difference. My short term memory is not great for my age. It's not that bad either. However, I bought this hoping I wouldn't forget as much, and maybe it's helped a bit, but not enough for me to say for sure." [Read full review]

12) Our Verdict on Neuriva Plus
Neuriva Plus is designed to improve focus, memory, learning, accuracy, concentration, and reasoning. Overall, Schiff Vitamins does a good job with this nootropic. The formula has received many positive reviews and testimonials from happy customers and the natural ingredients included in Neuriva Plus have been proven to support cognitive health.
While we are not huge fans of coffee extracts in dietary supplements (since too much caffeine may lead to many unwanted adverse effects, especially in people sensitive to this ingredient), Schiff Vitamin has chosen to include a decaffeinated patented coffee fruit extract known as Neurofactor.
Neurofactor shows promise as BDNF-booster, even with the limited research data available today.
Phosphatidylserine is another good addition as it may support healthy brain cell formation. And at the price tag of $44.99, you can’t find many other nootropics, at least not from a reputable company as Schiff Vitamins.
If you're excited to create optimal brain health, try looking at a product that is formulated to help stay focused; one that's created with superior ingredients.
Talking about the emerging standards in the brain supplementation industry, HCF® Happy, Calm & Focused is one of the highest praised products we've reviewed in years. Unlike far too many supplements, HCF proposes a unique FQ formulation that can do a lot in promoting optimal brain health.
