Mother’s DHA is a fish oil supplement aimed at helping mothers get the special benefits they need. It’s sold by Carlson Labs, which was founded in Chicago in 1965. For over fifty years they’ve been a quality-focused family-owned business, currently located in an Illinois suburb. Their website boasts over 250 separate products in their extensive lineup of supplements, including a lot of fish oils. They seem to have quite a bit of experience with that type of product, claiming to use only the most pure and most fresh of ingredients.

The company slogan is “Choose quality. Choose Carlson.” It looks to be true instead of a generic empty slogan like some businesses have. Information is backed up with facts and research, and each supplement is sent to independent FDA-approved labs to ensure Carlson products are safe and effective.

Summary

1) What is Mother’s DHA?

Every capsule of Mother’s DHA has 1000 mg of fish oil from a combination of fish. Namely anchovies, sardines, and tuna. Each dose contains 500 mg of DHA and 100 mg of EPA, two essential Omega-3 fatty acids (also known as long-chain n-3 fatty acids). One bottle will last two or more months, depending on which one you buy, since you only need to take one pill a day. If you really wanted to, you could take two daily, but that’s unnecessary.

Note that taking 3000 mg or more of fish oil in a single day is not recommended by medical professionals. There’s already a small chance of side effects and Mother’s DHA has a carefully-formulated dose of 1000 mg.

What’s Inside?

2) What’s Inside Mother’s DHA?

Mother’s DHA contains the following ingredients: Vitamin E, Fish Body Oil Concentrate, DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid), Beef gelatin, glycerin, water, fish (anchovy, sardine, tuna).

3) Is Mother’s DHA Right for You?

Carlson Labs mentions that recent studies show how DHA can be important during pregnancy and soon after, possibly enhancing breast milk quality. Each pill of Mother’s DHA contains 1000 mg of fish oil from a combination of anchovy, sardine, and tuna. This includes 500 mg of DHA and 100 mg of EPA, two of the most essential Omega-3 fatty acids.

While the fish oil itself isn’t from a highly-desirable fish like cod, it still works as promised, and contains a very above-average dose of DHA. There’s a chance of side effects, but they’re rare, and 1000 mg of fish oil a day is ideal.

Studies prove that fish oil is effective in combating heart disease and high triglycerides. It’s possibly effective for a whole host of other issues, and Mother’s DHA promises to show you several results. Your mental function and behavior may improve. Fish oil can also help with alleviating symptoms of depression and preventing damage caused by prescription medication. Fish is widely considered a brain food for a good reason.

Claims

4) What Mother’s DHA Does?

  • Small and soft capsules that are easy to swallow and contain a good dose of fish oil.
  • Very high in DHA Omega-3 fatty acids compared to other products.

Precautions

5) Precautions of Mother’s DHA Use

  • No natural or artificial flavoring to make each capsule more palatable.

Cost

6) How Much Does Mother’s DHA Cost?

Each bottle comes with a 60 or 120 day supply. It might be a little more expensive than some people hope for, since other bottles of fish oil supplements can last for several months, but those other products don’t have the same level of DHA. Mother’s DHA is really an inexpensive product overall and you’ll get a lot of great benefits out of it.

It’s easy to buy since stores all around the USA sell products from Carlson Labs. If you’d rather order online, you can also find their products on Amazon. It’s rather likely that your shipping costs will be low or nonexistent.

Suggested Use

7) Suggested Use

Some studies have found that DHA is essential for growth and cognitive development of infants. It’s also necessary for adults, as it maintains normal brain function. Compared to other fatty acids, the brain absorbs and processes DHA quickly. Some infant milk-based formulas started including DHA due to its positive effects, and breast milk naturally contains small amounts of DHA. Also in mothers, one study found a correlation between improved mood and increased intake of Omega-3s like DHA.

Verdict

8) Our Final Take On Mother’s DHA

Mother’s DHA does make a lot of claims compared to similar fish oil products. Since results will vary from person to person, it’s difficult to know what kind of benefits you will get. However, fish oil does have terrific benefits, and Carlson Laboratories has created a good product here. It’s high in essential Omega-3s to help keep a healthy heart and mind. It’s also one of the few types of supplements that’s verified to be safe for women who are pregnant or nursing, unlike most nootropics and other natural products. Research proves, time and time again, that DHA and EPA are highly desirable in people’s everyday diets.
