Food Science SAMe includes the following ingredients: S-Adenosylmethionine Tosylate Disulfate 400 mg yielding: S-Adenosylmethionine 200 mg, Mannitol, Citric acid, Cellulose, Stearic acid, Sodium starch glycolate, Croscarmellose sodium, silica, Glyceryl triacetate, Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate, and Titanium dioxide.
Food Science SAMe contains 200 mg SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine). SAMe is a compound naturally produced in the body which plays an important role in the immune system health, helps maintain cell membranes and participates in the secretion and metabolism of key neurotransmitters such as serotonin, melatonin and dopamine.
Several studies have shown its ability to reduce pain and swelling in the joints, making it a potential treatment for osteoarthritis. By increasing levels of Serotonin, SAMe may help improve depression symptoms, as imbalances of Serotonin have been liked to depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder or panic. The chemical is currently tested for many benefits related to Serotonin, Dopamine and Melatonin related benefits, such as its impact on memory and learning capacity, sleep, aging, aggression and anxiety, mood or motivation.
The majority of SAMe is produced and active in the liver, hence low levels are known to lead to liver damage. Supplementation may reduce inflammation and dysfunction of the liver in certain cases.
Long term side effects are currently not known, however high doses may lead to anxiety, restlessness and even insomnia. Special precautions is recommended to people suffering from Bipolar Disorder, for whom S-Adenosylmethionine may induce a manic swing.
