Skin Defense is supplement which claims to help protect and revitalize your skin. It’s sold by Alpha Formula Labs from Wilmington, Delaware. They appear to be a newer company with Skin Defense as their flagship – but sole – product. The supplement doesn’t have GMP or NSF certifications to prove the quality of their ingredients, but the company says they have high standards, and everything is made in the United States.

Skin Defense contains the following ingredients: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Biotin, Zinc, Selenium, Flax Seed Powder, Grape Seed Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Extract, Gelatin, magnesium stearate, rice flour, silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate

Product Features

Skin Defense has 8 vitamins and minerals plus three nootropic ingredients – ginkgo biloba leaf extract, grape seed (Vitis vinifera) extract, and flax seed powder. 1000 mg of flax seed contains approximately 250 mg of polyunsaturated fats, including Omega-3s. Flax seed has Omega-3 fatty acids, which are very important. Flax has them in the form of Alpha-Linoleic Acid (ALA). The body can convert this to DHA and EPA, the essential Omega-3s, but it’s not easily done. The conversion rate is often under 10 percent. Fish oils are the most common source of the Omega-3s we need in our daily diets. For vegans, there are algae alternatives. We get a good amount of ALA in our daily diets since it’s found in many foods. It’s usually used for energy by our bodies, with only tiny amounts converted into other nutrients. Research continuously proves that omega-3s are effective in combating heart disease and other problems. Even from ALA, Omega-3s can increase cognitive function, improve mood, enhance bone density, and more. ALA is great but you need to take a very large amount. One serving of Skin Defense will usually give you 2.5 to 25 mg of EPA and DHA.

  • No allergens or filler ingredients. But do note that flaxseed supplements can interact poorly with blood thinning medications, birth control, and diabetes medicine.
  • Flax seed is best as a powder. It can be used to help fight against high cholesterol, heart disease, menopausal symptoms, and possibly some forms of cancer.

  • Omega-3s have a lot of benefits for the mind and body, but don’t often translate into better hair, skin, or nails. Flax powder is best for helping your digestive system and lowering cholesterol.
  • Way too much selenium. Most people get over 100 mcg a day from their daily diets, so two capsules of Skin Defense would double that. And more than 200 mcg of selenium a day may increase your risk for diabetes and cancer.

This product is intended for men or women who want to stave off aging, plus grow and repair their skin, nails, and hair. Skin Defense works well for some people, but its overall effectiveness is uncertain. Flax seed has proven benefits, but with the small amounts present here, you’re not likely to notice a big difference in your daily life. This supplement may benefit your cardiovascular system, and it could lower cholesterol, but there isn’t much scientific evidence that it will help your hair or skin. It does work well enough as a multivitamin for some people, though. Ask your doctor if Skin Defense is right for you.
