Premium Migraine Relief
Premium Migraine Relief is a homeopathic product intended to relieve throbbing, pressure, or other pains from headaches. It’s sold by Natra Bio, a brand owned by the Berkeley company Elephant Pharmacy. Natra Bio says they abide by FDA guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), which means these products are probably well-made, or at least have high purity. The only potential problem is that the FDA doesn’t really regulate homeopathic medicines like they do with real medicines. Natra Bio has 15 main product categories and they sell a wide variety of products.
Premium Migraine Relief contains the following ingredients: Chamomilla 1X, Salix alba 1X, iRIS VERSICOLOR 4X, Juglans cinerea 4X, Sanguinaria canadensis 4X, Belladonna 6X, Natrum Sulphuricum 6X, Niccolum Metallicum 6X, Sticta pulmonaria 6X.
The main ingredients appear to be lactose, Chamomilla (chamomile), and Salix Alba (white willow). Other ingredients include Naturm Sulphuricum (sodium sulfate), Niccolum Metallicum (nickel), and Sticta Pulmonaria (lungwort). Pulmonaria plants are usually used as decorations in gardens, and may be a food source for some types of butterfly larvae. It doesn’t have any known medicinal applications. In the Middle Ages, lungwort was used to treat coughs, because doctors seemed to believe “plants similar to any body part could be used to treat illnesses in this part.” Recent research has failed to uncover supporting evidence for this theory. And even if it worked, then lungwort wouldn’t have any business being included in a product for headache relief.
Salix Alba, known as white willow, is found in Europe and parts of Asia. It’s one of the few useful ingredients in this product. For over two thousand years, it was used to ease aches, pains, and fevers. It’s mentioned in ancient texts from Egypt, Greece, China, and other parts of the world. A bark extract was developed in the 1800s and named salicin. Salicin is an anti-inflammatory which eventually led to the creation of aspirin. Large doses can be considered toxic. People should not take anything with salicin if they have asthma, diabetes, gout, gastritis, hemophilia, or stomach ulcers. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid Premium Migraine Relief.
- Natural product which doesn’t contain alcohol, sugar, or obvious allergens, although the lactose may be a problem for some people.
- Natra Bio products are sold in over 750 stores across the United States, so it’s possible to find this item somewhere near you.
- No evidence that homeopathic medicine is effective in any way, other than potentially providing a placebo effect.
- Unflavored tablets can be an advantage. Some people may prefer something which tastes nice, though.
It’s hard to say if this product works or not. As the company website notes, “This homeopathic product is based on traditional homeopathic practice and theory. The FDA has not evaluated this product and is not aware of scientific evidence to support homeopathy as effective.” This means the products from this company may not be effective for most people. For some people, however, they can potential have an effect. Most people will not be best served by a homeopathic product, but there is a chance it can do something for you. You’ll have to check it out and see.
