Nature’s Bounty Ginkgo Biloba is a brain supplement based on a single active ingredient, namely Ginkgo Biloba. The formula is sold by Nature’s Bounty, an experienced US manufacturer that enjoys great popularity among consumers. The formula is advertised to improve memory and blood circulation and increase alertness. It is also claimed as free of artificial flavor, sweeteners, preservatives, and common allergens like starch, lactose, gluten, wheat, fish, or yeast.

Nature’s Bounty Ginkgo Biloba is sold in two different concentrations: 60 or 120 mg of Ginkgo Biloba standardized to contain 24% Ginkgo Flavone Glycosides. Glycosides are the antioxidant compounds in this plant due to which Ginkgo si considered effective in so many areas of the human health.

This product is not recommended to children under the age of 18, pregnant and nursing women, or individuals already under medication. Those who are programmed for surgery should also discontinue use several weeks prior to the intervention.

Ingredients

Nature’s Bounty Ginkgo Biloba contains the following ingredients: Nature’s Bounty Ginkgo Biloba contains the following ingredients: Ginkgo Biloba extract (leaf), rice flour, gelatin, vegetable Magnesium Stearate, and Silica.

Product Features

Ginkgo Biloba is one of the oldest living tree species in the world. It has been traditionally used for thousands of years to heal numerous diseases like asthma, tuberculosis, fluid discharges, skin conditions, etc. Scientists believe that many of its possible medical applications have been forgotten or are not yet explored. Today, the plant extract is used to promote optimal memory in both healthy individuals and patients suffering from age-declining cognitive impairment, improve circulatory function and treat conditions that affect the circulatory system (blood clotting, restless leg syndrome, heart problems, etc), prevent and treat various types of cancers, support eye health and treat eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration, and many other.

A large number of clinical trials and studies have been conducted so far, but some of Ginkgo’s uses are not (yet) validated by the findings of this research. Years of study involving human patients who were given specific dosages of the herb are a testimony of the huge medical research involving Ginkgo Biloba. Although there is no clear recommendation, we can draw some conclusions as to what dosages were proven effective in patients suffering from specific conditions. For example, in a 6 year study on patients with age associated-memory impairment the dosage used was between 240-600 mg per day. In another trial, depressive patients were administered with 240 mg of Ginkgo Biloba daily for 10 weeks.

Advantages

  • The formula is free of artificial fillers, binders, and allergens.
  • The price for a three moths supply is really low (approximately $9+ shipping taxes if ordered online)
  • The formula comes in two different dosages so it can fulfill the needs of a broader spectrum of consumers

Disadvantages

  • The formula cannot be ordered directly from the manufacturer’s site

Conclusion

Considering the supplement only contains the Ginkgo Biloba extract lacking any artificial chemicals, we can say this is a high quality product. The formula delivers a good amount of active substance, but not very high so we’re not concerned about it causing serious adverse reactions. However, one of the plant’s most important benefits is the blood-thinning effect, which can at the same time increase the risk of bleeding. Cardiac patients already under medication are advised to consult their doctor prior to using this product.

Consumers seem to be generally satisfied with this product, and given its low cost and the good reputation of the manufacturer, we believe this can be a good alternative for those who want to try a Ginkgo Biloba supplement to improve cognitive or circulatory system function.
