Healthy Aging combines vitamins with antioxidants and plant extracts to deliver benefits for the heart, brain and blood. Alpha Lipoic Acid also known as ALA is a fatty acid found in every cell in the body. ALA plays two core roles: one as a key component of energy production processes where it is able to turn glucose into energy and the other as an anti-oxidant.
As an antioxidant, it has powerful effects against free radicals. Preliminary evidence shows that Alpha Lipoic Acid may potentially be beneficial in stroke and dementia treatment, as well as other brain problems caused by free radical damage including Alzheimer’s disease or mild memory impairment. Also, there is evidence that ALA may be a potential treatment against peripheral neuropathy, a disease which affects the nerves and is caused by nutritional deficiencies, injury or health conditions such as diabetes, kidney failure or Lyme disease. Side effects are rare and usually manifest as rashes.
Rhodiola Rosea is an herb native to Siberia and Scandinavian countries. It is primary used for its tonic and adaptogenic properties, which translate in its ability to assist with stress management and to boost the immune system. Its medical applications include mild to moderate depression, insomnia, fatigue and treatment of mood disorders (such as dysthymia or postpartum depression). Rhodiola has no known or suspected side effects; however, its safety has not been systematically studied.
