Feeling anxious when faced with a problem at work, before making an important decision or before taking a test is a normal emotional experience. Having an anxiety disorder is totally different, though, as they can prevent you from leading a normal life. People with anxiety disorders experience constant and overwhelming worry and fear. So what do when you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with strong emotions? Well, remedies for these disorders range from supplements to prescriptive drugs. Most of these solutions are only meant to treat the problem but not for providing a long-term cure. The latest in this line of remedies is GABA Calming Support to help calm the anxious mind.

Facts

1) GABA Calming Support Quick Facts

GABA Calming Support is an inhibitory supplement meant to quiet an overactive mind. BrainMD Health, claim it can help its users stay calm, cool and even-keeled. Its ingredients include Vitamin B6, Magnesium and Gamma-Amino-Butyric-Acid (GABA). This product is basically a combination of neurotransmitters that work to quiet an overactive mind. GABA has been shown to promote relaxation by revving up calming and focused brain waves. It also reduces other brain waves associated with worry.

Magnesium taken in the normal diet has been proved by various studies to have a calming effect on the brain. In a 2009 study published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, it was shown that magnesium was affable in the treatment of anxiety and depression. There is, however, some evidence to show that magnesium can be more effective when taken together with vitamin B6. An earlier study done in 2004 and published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition suggested that magnesium, when used together with vitamin B6, can greatly calm down the brain.

Gamma-Amino-Butyric-Acid (GABA) is a natural amino acid that acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter for the central nervous system. It works by blocking nerve impulses to prevent nerve cells from firing too frequently. It is, therefore, the human body’s natural calming chemical that works by ensuring balance in the functioning of the central nervous system.

The researchers in this study recommended further studies to validate this particular finding.

Verdict

6) Our Verdict on GABA Calming Support

Clearly, some ingredients in GABA Calming Support have the potential to calm the brain. However, there is a need for further clinical studies to fully understand how GABA supplements work with regards to calming the brain. Since GABA has been shown not to exist in natural food, the best option for those looking to fight anxiety might just be amino acid supplements.
