Food 4 Thought is supposed to be an advanced nootropic formula which supports brain function, memory, and clarity. It’s sold by Florida company Helix Healthstore, who appears to have been founded in spring or summer 2015. They sell 5 products, made in GMP certified facilities. This supplement claims to be a premium product with a potent formula, but the formula is rather typical for a nootropic. Some might say this is a good thing, as they’re using a proven blend of quality ingredients.

Ingredients

Food 4 Thought contains the following ingredients: Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Phosphatidylserine Complex, N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCI, Glutamine, DMAE, Bacopa monnieri, Vinpocetine, Huperzine A

Product Features

Each serving has ginkgo biloba, phosphatidylserine, Huperzine-A, L-Glutamine, and other popular nootropics. Ginkgo is always common, although there’s only 50 mg of it per capsule here. It’s best to start with a low amount of 30 to 50 mg daily if your body isn’t used to ginkgo, but most doses are 100 to 120 mg a day. One solution to this is just to take two capsules a day, to get the 100 mg of ginkgo, if you feel you should. Some people need more, and some people don’t.

Phosphatidylserine and other phosphatidyl ingredients are generally made from cabbage or soy. Helix Healthstore doesn’t list the source on the label, so we have to assume it’s one of those two. There’s an allergen warning on the label which mentions soy, so that’s likely where the phosphatidyl came from. Either way – it’s supposed to promote communication within brain cells and maintain cellular function. In healthy adults its effects are more minor because their cells tend to be functioning well, and already are in good health. It can still be good as a type of mental anti aging supplement, although more studies would help to verify some of phosphatidylserine’s many potential benefits. It can improve learning and memory, which is why it’s a popular addition to nootropics.

Advantages

  • Definitely works for many people. This supplement has a large number of positive reviews and testimonials about its efficacy.
  • Vegetarian capsules instead of gelatin. No fillers, binders, or junk ingredients that aren’t needed.

Disadvantages

  • The formula doesn’t vary much from that of similar products. It contains the same ingredients, in the same concentrations, as some of its competitors. However, it’s possible that this product has ingredients of superior quality and purity.
  • Very expensive nootropic supplement, considering how the formula isn’t awfully remarkable.

Conclusion

The inclusion of amino acids is almost always a mark of quality in a supplement. The ability for ingredients to penetrate the blood brain barrier is important for ensuring that your brain gets the nutrients it needs. Some ingredients can also increase blood flow without increasing blood pressure, maintaining proper circulation for health and alertness. People who take Food 4 Thought mention its ability to give them additional focus and mental performance. It even works well as an introductory supplement for people unfamiliar with nootropics. The potency seems high enough to deliver results, yet not high enough to risk side effects.
