Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw’s InnerPower with Stevia is a tropical flavored drink mix with a variety of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It’s sold by a Nevada company who has existed since 1985, named Life Enhancement. They work with Pearson and Shaw for several drink mixes, as they’ve done a lot of research and development in the supplement field. The two are best known for coauthoring books on longevity and anti-aging, including the massive 858 page Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach, which was published in 1982. Although science has advanced much since then, some ideas still hold water today.
Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw’s InnerPower with Stevia contains the following ingredients: Vitamin A (as beta-carotene), Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid), Vitamin E (dL-alpha tocopheryl acetate), Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine), Folate (as folic acid), Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin), Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5 as calcium pantothenate), Calcium (as calcium pantothenate and calcium borate), Magnesium (as magnesium amino acid chelate), Zinc (as zinc gluconate), Copper (as copper gluconate), Chromium (as chromium polynicotinate), Arginine, Malic acid, Betaine, Glycine, Choline (as choline dihydrogen citrate), Choline (as choline dihydrogen citrate), Citrulline, Taurine, Boron (as calcium borate), natural flavors, citric acid, silicon dioxide, fumaric acid, acesulfame K, stevia (Stevia rebaudiana).
One of Pearson and Shaw’s ideas seems to be about using vitamins and minerals to boost energy – without stimulants. Some of their drink mixes do contain fairly small amounts of caffeine for those who want extra boosts every day, but InnerPower doesn’t have any. It still aims to improve athletic performance and energy, mostly through the amino acid L-arginine. It’s a conditionally essential amino acids, used mostly by athletes because it can improve blood flow and produce nitric oxide. Arginine’s effects are sometimes unreliable, so Life Enhancement includes other amino acids to help you get the nutrients you need. L-citrulline helps arginine product and is often through to be a better supplementation option. Choline, a nutrient similar to B vitamins, is important for cognitive function in aging adults. It’s found in foods, so you generally don’t need supplements with it, but more can potentially help the nervous system. It can cause minor side effects, although it isn’t likely to do so unless taken in very large amounts.
- 13 vitamins and minerals, 4 amino acids, and more. The balanced formula doesn’t have any obvious flaws and seems like a genuinely useful – and tasty – way to get a lot of your necessary vitamins and minerals. It’s mostly tailored toward athletes and older adults at risk for cognitive decline related to age.
- 1 serving a day is enough for most, so Life Enhancement could tone down the amounts of several ingredients. Arginine for example starts to lose effectiveness after you’ve ingested 10 mg, and each serving of InnerPower contains 6 mg. Following the directions to take up to 3 servings a day delivers almost double the effective amount of arginine, which means you may “lose” a large portion of arginine.
Most people have a lot of confidence in the formulas created by Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, and it looks as though that confidence is not misplaced. People have a lot to say about InnerPower and it’s all good. Some use it as part of a regimen to tone muscle and burn fat, saying it has quick results even if you use it off and on. InnerPower with Stevia seems like a unique product that can energize you and help a lot with workouts, while also being good enough a supplement to help the average person out in daily life. If the price seems right to you, this drink mix is something you’ll want to try.
