Deplin is a prescription drug recommended as an antidepressant and antipsychotic. The drug is produced by Pamlab, a biomedical company specialized in developing natural medicine of the highest quality. The company claims to provide personalized solutions that safely approach distinct nutritional requirements for people suffering from various health concerns. Their particular interest in studying metabolic imbalances and the genomic factors that affect certain types of people is what distinguishes them from competition.

The formula is marketed as a prescription vitamin based on the active form of a naturally occurring substance in the human body called Folate. This form is known as L-methylfolate and is an essential substance for the formation of healthy DNA and prevention of DNA damage. Deplin is prescribed to treat different conditions caused by a deficiency in this vitamin including low plasma and low blood cell folate, and other conditions such as mood related disorders. L-methylfolate is included in the trimonoamine modulators category of antidepressants and is particularly needed by the body for proper synthesis of important neurotransmitters like Serotonin, Norepinephrine and Dopamine, substances known to affect the sense of well-being and the body’s response to stress. Among the advertised benefits, the manufacturer mentions increased alertness, mood, and concentration, enhanced ability to take initiative, motivation, and increased sociability.

The formula is recommended only to adults. Official information can be achieved after completing the form available on the manufacturer’s webpage.

Product Features

Deplin is based on a single active ingredient, the natural form of Folic acid known as L-methylfolate. This is claimed as the only form to cross the brain blood barrier, which makes the product effective in regulating levels of important neurotransmitters associated with mood. The active substance is claimed to be a medical food, which is different from both dietary foods and drugs. The compound is known to be used in the normal formation of genetic material, particularly helpful in the case of fetuses for the prevention of DNA mutations such as neural tube defects. Another important function is in the synthesis of the neurotransmitters Serotonin, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine. Serotonin is known to particularly influence the sense of well-being and happiness, regulate mood, appetite, and sleep, and improve memory and learning skills. Dopamine is vital for neural transmission and is particularly linked to memory related skills and motivational actions.

Norepinephrine is an excitatory neurotransmitter also linked with mood regulation. Imbalance in this substance has been shown to result in increased anxiety, sleeping problems, decreased focus and low energy. Adequate levels of Folate are considered highly important for mental and cognitive health and maintenance of proper levels of nutrients in the brain. Reduced Folic acid levels may also lead to cardiovascular problems (including blood clots) and schizophrenia symptoms.

Deplin medication is not recommended for pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding women, patients who are under any other treatment, people with known allergies or low levels of vitamin B9. Drug interactions have also been reported, including with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, barbiturates, and other drugs. A full list of interactions can be provided by a specialized healthcare practitioner. The most common Deplin side effects are allergic reactions with symptoms like rash and itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth, lips, face or tongue, and tightness in the chest.

Deplin dosage varies depending on the condition and should be recommended by a healthcare specialist.

The answer to the question “What is Deplin” and how it works is complex. Deplin is a formulation based on the therapeutic action of a bio-available form of the vitamin B9. The formula is offered as an additional support for those who are on antidepressants, suffer from schizophrenia or are unable to convert dietary foliate into L-methylfolate. The formula is advertised as a natural sourced product that has a major advantage to synthetic-based dietary supplements and formulations: that of crossing the BBB. Deplin for depression is very popular among users of antidepressants and is claimed to have helped patients who have been struggling for years with severe depression symptoms and other conditions. Clinical trials have shown that the combination of Deplin medication with SSRI drugs was effective in considerably lowering symptoms of major depressive disorder as compared to placebo drugs.

Deplin is  not indicated for several categories of people including those with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients listed. Moreover, given all the potential dangers that may occur in case of incorrect administration or any specific health issues of each consumer, it is highly recommended not to use this formula unless a doctor has given its consent and only in the recommended doses.

  1. 1

I started using Deplin 1.5 years ago. I noticed an improvement in my mood by day 3. I’m not flying high and happy but it definitely keeps me out of those low lows. I was tested and I do have the mutated gene which doesn’t allow for Folic Acid to be properly processed. I will need this the rest of my life. I do hope the price comes down.

I have been on Deplin for about a month. I have not had any side effects, but note tingling in feet and hands. I am on Lyrica for neuropathic so. Just curious if the tingling issue from the Deplin or perhaps it is due to the Fibro or RA that I have been Dx with. Curious, will this assist with weight loss.

  3. 3

I wish they offered a free trial, but I managed to find a 50% discount coupon, which dropped the price to an almost decent level. After trying it for two weeks, I can say that the price is well deserved, because it definitely lives up to its promises.

  4. 5

Deplin Algal oil works very well for me. But as a 70-year-old retired person on a fixed income I have a very difficult time paying for it. My psychiatrist thinks it is helpful for my depression he prescribed it. How long will it be before the FDA approves it and my insurance pays for it? Thank you for this page the information is most helpful.

I just wanted to know specific side effects since I do take other medications such as Clonazepam, Lamictal, Depllin, Restoril and Brintellix. Thank you
