Overview

1) Quick Overview

Hericium erinaceus is a well-known Nootropic mushroom traditionally used in Chinese medicine for a broad spectrum of health concerns. Recent studies determined that this mushroom is a potent natural remedy against neurodegenerative diseases usually associated with aging.

Lion’s Mane is currently used to boost cognitive function, protect the brain, and support the production of a protein called Nerve Growth Factor. NGF is considered essential for the survival and proliferation of neurons. Without proper levels of NGF, neurons undergo apoptosis, meaning they die. It is why the protein is considered essential for the maintenance of a healthy functioning nervous system in humans. NGF prevents inflammation in the brain, stimulates neural activity, and provides an overall support for a healthy brain function.

The cognitive benefits of Lion’s Mane refer to the maintenance of optimal memory including recall memory, increased focus, and attention. It also helps repair injured myelin sheaths (the protective layers around the nerves) with benefits on the central nervous system.

3) Does Lion’s Mane Mushroom Work?

The active ingredient in this formula is a Nootropic mushroom also known by the name of Sheep’s Head, Bear’s Head, or Yamabushitake. It has been used as a traditional remedy in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Its uses referred to the treatment of a large number of conditions affecting the heart, kidneys, liver, or stomach.

Today, the mushroom is known as a powerful natural Nootropic and potent support of the Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). NGF is a hormone involved in the regulation, growth, proliferation, maintenance, and survival of sensory neurons. These are activated by sensory input and are responsible for the transmission of sensory information like sight, sound, or feeling. They send the projections resulted to the other elements of the nervous system, until the information reaches the brain or the spinal cord.

Lion’s Mane is also involved in numerous other biological processes including some related to the regulation of the immune system function. It is also a rich source of nutrients including essential minerals (Zinc, Iron, and Selenium), amino-acids, polypeptides, and polysaccharides. The Polysaccharides in this mushroom are particularly beneficial for digestion as they have the ability to improve stomach mucosa functions.

Although an optimal dosage was not scientifically determined, several human studies showed positive results with doses of 2 g per day or more. The noticed improvements referred to symptoms of anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and cognitive decline.

Lion’s Mane Mushroom delivers a daily dosage of 1.5 mg daily if the user sticks to the recommendations of the producers (3 capsules per day.

The Polysaccharides present in high quantities in this mushroom have been shown to effectively support a healthy digestive function and to act as powerful antioxidants. Final Thoughts

8) Final Thoughts on Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Lion’s Mane Mushroom is marketed to be 2-6 times stronger than popular extracts of this mushroom. The manufacturer does not motivate what makes their formula so much stronger than similar products. However, the daily dosage of 1.5 grams is a moderate amount based on the data from clinical studies conducted so far. We have made a little research and found that there are products which deliver more than 2g of Lion’s Mane per serving, so what makes this formula better? We’re not exactly sure, but one of the good about the formula is that it’s organic and it lacks dangerous contaminants and pesticides.
