Abilify is a prescribed drug that has been promoted throughout the years as one that can treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD and even schizophrenia. Bristol-Meyers Squibb is a global BioPharma company that produces Abilify and various other products. They claim to be focused on discovering and developing new medication that will help patients overcome serious diseases.

The manufacturer states that this prescription drug can be used in conjunction with other forms of medication and brain supplements in order to regulate certain chemicals in the brain. The idea behind Abilify is that by using the product, you are keeping these chemicals in check, meaning the brain will reach a state of balance which is essential to mental health.

In a broader sense, Abilify can be used by almost anyone that wants to keep their mind sharp and active, but it is directed to those that might suffer from various mental disorders. Treating these disorders in an early stage may prevent further complications.

Abilify Ingredients

Abilify contains: Aripiprazole, acesulfame potassium, aspartame, calcium silicate, croscarmellose sodium, crospovidone, crème de vanilla, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, tartaric acid, xylito, ferric oxide, and FD&C Blue No. 2 Aluminum Lake.

Product Features

Although Abilify does contain many ingredients, one of the most important ones is considered to be Aripiprazole. It is found in other similar types of medication as well. It is stated to restore the correct levels of chemicals in the brain, but there have been recent studies indicating that Aripiprazole can cause eye twitches and acidic burps. When Abilify is taken over longer periods of time, a user might find that while the acidic burps will subside, the eye twitching will not. Furthermore, some studies have shown it to actually increase in frequency and intensity.

One of the first products a doctor is likely to recommend you in case you’ve been experiencing symptoms of mild or moderate brain disorders, is Abilify. The formula is supported by some bold claims of treating anything from anxiety to OCD. However, it is only available by prescription and should never be taken without consulting your doctor on the matter. If you are not entirely certain Abilify is right for you, most doctors will offer free samples of the product (usually 1-2 week trials).

  • A free trial offer is available
  • May help people with bipolar disorder

  • Some side-effects have been associated with the use of this product
  • Not too many positive customer testimonials
  • Contains artificial flavors and colorants
  • It is available by prescription only

While some testimonials have been very kind towards Abilify, other people have been experiencing unpleasant side-effects. Taking that into consideration, it seems that the product may or may not meet its expectations, but in most cases it accomplishes its purpose. For those new to the drug, keep in mind that you may only use it with a doctor’s consent. You may not use Abilify if your doctor does not recommend it to you.

Even if free trials are offered, the considerably high price of the product will discourage most consumers from an eventual purchase. An alternative might be turning to all-natural supplements, or herbal remedies to both save money and avoid any potentially harmful effects.

I had a horrible experience taking Abilify. I have bipolar disorder & at age 26 a psychotherapist put me on Abilfy. Within 2 weeks I was having schizophrenia like episodes such as hallucinations, which I knew were not real. I immediately took myself off the Abilify and to this day (6 years later) I still have hallucinations at night when I’m sleeping. Horrible drug.

My husband was recently put on 5 mg of Abilify. He also takes a 20 mg prozac daily. Just recently was told he has dementia by Neuro. Dr. He is 76 yrs old. Has had Bipolar spells his entire life & ADHD. He has heart Rhytham problems; had 2 open heart surgeries. Should he be taking this med?

      Hi Dale,

Unfortunately, we cannot offer such medical advises. The only one entitled to such opinions and advises is his doctor. Our strong recommendation is to take the treatment as prescribed by his doctor.
